Torres Wins | Oilers Finish as Runner-Up at Dayton Fall Invite

Kettering, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's golf team wrapped up the Dayton Fall Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 16 in second place in field of Division I teams with a two-round score of 585. The Oilers posted a 287 in the final round which ties the team's school record, both of which have been shot this fall. The score of 585 is the second-best 36-hole score in school history.

Senior Makenzie Torres took medalist honors in the event with a two-round score of 139 (-1), the second-best score, relative to par, in school history. Only Kasey Petty's 2016 score of -3 at the NCAA East Regional was better. Torres led the field in par four scoring as she was four under for the event on par fours. She also led the field with nine birdies in the tournament. The win is Torres' fourth of her career, the most since Petty won four from 2014-2015.

Senior Samantha Hatter played arguably the best round of her career, firing a 67 (-3) which is ties the school record for best 18-hole round, but is tied for 5th in terms of score relative to par. Hatter ends the event with a 145 (+5) and tied for fifth overall.

Coming in a tie for ninth was sophomore Kristinia Kniesly who fired a 75 (+5) on the second day to finish with a 149 (+9) for the tournament which gave the Oilers three players in the top ten.

Rounding out the team scoring was junior Meredith Wipper who fired a 78 (+8) today to finish the tournament with a 155 (+15). She ended the Invite in a tie for 28th while junior Samantha Kellstrom, who shot a 75 (+5) for a 155 (+15), also was tied for 28th.

Freshman Jill Schmitmeyer participated as an individual and shot a 79 on the second day for a 154, good enough to tie for 22nd while junior Mikaela Hickey ended with a 158 for the tournament, placing her in a tie for 36th.

The Oilers have concluded their fall season and are off until they travel to Georgetown, Ky. for the SVSU Spring Invite in March.
