Oilers Win GVSU's Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invite

Allendale, Mich.- The University of Findlay women's golf team completed play the Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invite, Monday, Sep. 26 at the Meadows Golf Club, hosted by Grand Valley State University. The Oilers shot rounds of 297 (+9) and 310 (+22) and finished in first place. They finished ten shots ahead of Grand Valley State University.

Findlay battled the conditions today. With the temperatures hovering around 55 degrees, the Oilers headed onto the course. They ran into off-and-on showers with wind 10 to 20 miles per hour and gusts up to 30 miles per hour.

The Oilers were once again led by sophomore Mary Kelly Mulcahy. She shot an opening round of 72 (E) before following it up with a 77 (+5) today. She tied for third.
Assisting M. Mulcahy were senior Danbi Kim and junior Gabby Woods who both finished tied for eighth at nine-over par. Kim carded a 73 (+1) yesterday and a round of 80 (+8) today while Woods carded rounds of 75 (+3) and 78 (+6). Senior Jill Schmitmeyer tied for twelfth at eleven-over par after  rounds of 77 (+5) and 78 (+6). Rounding out the lineup for the Oilers was sophomore Erin Mulcahy. E Mulcahy opened with a round of 85 (+13) before bouncing back with a round of 77 (+5) today. She finished in a tie for 38th at 18-over par. 

Despite playing as an individual, junior Sarah Scarpill was the Oilers top finisher in the event. She opened the tournament with a round of 77 (+5) followed by a round of 71 (-1) today. She was the only player in the field to shoot under-par today. She finished in second place at four-over par and earned all-tournament honors for efforts. 

Also competing as an individual was freshman Hayley Dye. Dye finished nineteenth with scores of 77 (+5) and 80 (+8) to leave her at 13-over par for the tournament.

The Oilers will be back in action at their home tournament, the William Beall Fall Classic, Oct. 3 and 4 and Findlay Country Club.
