Oilers in Third at LeeAnn Noble Memorial

Dahlonega, Ga. – The University of Findlay women's golf team, ranked fourth in the latest Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division II rankings, travelled south this week to the  LeeAnn Noble Memorial in Dahlonega, Ga. on Monday, Oct. 10. The two day, 54-hole event features eight nationally ranked teams including the Oilers, #6 Anderson, #9 Lee, #11 Limestone, #17 Columbus State, #20 Lander, #22 Florida Southern, and #24 Carson-Newman.

Through 36 holes of play, Findlay finds themselves in third after shooting a two-round total of 591 (+15). Round one saw the Oilers in fourth after carding a 298 (+10), but a 293 (+5) in the second round moved Findlay into the third spot, fifteen shots back of the leader.

Sophomore Mary Kelly Mulcahy, who was named G-MAC Athlete of the Week today, is currently in fifth amongst the field of not only the best Division II talent but the nations talent. On a day when the average score hovered 77.50, Findlay's go-to player this year opened the day with a 71 (-1). She followed that up with a 72 (E). On the day, Mary Kelly carded just five bogeys while making six birdies on her way to a 36-hole score of 143 (-1) which puts her in fifth place in the event, just one shot behind the leaders. 

Not far behind is senior Jill Schmitmeyer who made eight birdies and an eagle on the day, carding a 73 (+1) in the first round and a 71 (-1) in the second to settle into a tie for sixth place with a 144 (E). 

In a tie for 31st is junior Gabby Woods who had rounds of 80 (+8) and 72 (E). Woods battled a tough start, making four bogeys and two doubles in her first round, but steadied the ship en route to a 152 (+8).

Senior Danbi Kim is tied for 45th after opening her day with a first-round score of 76 (+4). A second-round 78 (+6) gave Kim a 36-hole score of 154 (+10).

Rounding out the Oilers lineup was junior Sarah Scarpill who finds herself in a tie for 57th. Scarpill put together rounds of 78 (+6) and 79 (+7) to finish the day with a 157 (+13).

Competing as individuals in the tournament were sophomore Erin Mulcahy and freshmen Hayley Dye and Nicole Jones. E. Mulcahy carded rounds of 72 (E) and 75 (+3) to leave her in a tie for 16th with a 147 (+3). Dye recorded rounds of 74 (+2) and 79 (+7) to finish at 153 (+9) and in a tie for 40th. Jones shot rounds of 84 (+12) and 77 (+5) to leave her in a tie for 73rd at 161 (+17).

The Oilers will be back in action tomorrow, Oct. 11 as they chase Anderson  in the final round.
