Oilers Finish Runner-Up at LeeAnn Noble Memorial

Dahlonega, Ga. – The University of Findlay women's golf team, ranked fourth in the latest Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division II rankings, completed play at the  LeeAnn Noble Memorial in Dahlonega, Ga. on Tuesday, Oct. 11. The two day, 54-hole event features eight nationally ranked teams including the Oilers, #6 Anderson, #9 Lee, #11 Limestone, #17 Columbus State, #20 Lander, #22 Florida Southern, and #24 Carson-Newman.

Concluding play, Findlay finished second, after shooting a three-round total of 876 (+12). A round one score of 298 (+10) and a round two score of 293 (+5) left the Oilers in third overnight and fifteen shots behind leader, Anderson University. However, with a third round 285 (-3), the Oilers were able to slide past Lee University and finish just nine shots behind the #6 Trojans. 

Findlay's 285 marks the third best 18-hole score in program history. In fact, the record for the 18, 36, and 54-hole scores were all set at the 2021 LeeAnn Noble Memorial after a breakout performance last year. 

Leading the way for the Oilers was senior Jill Schmitmeyer. Schmitmeyer, finished in a tie for sixth amongst the best talent in the nation. The two time all-American, carded rounds of 73 (+1) in the first round, 71 (-1) in the second before a 73 (+1) today. Schmitmeyer recorded twelve birdies in the tournament, the third best in the field. 

The low round for the Oilers was junior Gabby Woods who fired a bogey free 68 (-4) on the day. Woods had a slow start yesterday, recording rounds of 80 (+8) and 72 (E). However, she moved up nineteen spots today, as she finished in a tie for twelfth at 220 (+4). Woods' 68 is the second lowest 18-hole score in program record and her career best score.

Senior Danbi Kim also made a move up the leaderboard, climbing seventeen spots to finish tied for 28th with a 54-hole score of 225 (+9). Kim recorded a first-round score of 76 (+4), a second-round 78 (+6) before a round of 71 (-1) today. 

Sophomore Mary Kelly Mulcahy, who has been a standout for the Oilers this fall, finished in 28th at 225 (+9). After carding rounds of 71 (-1), 72 (E), she recorded 82 (+10). 

Rounding out the Oilers lineup was junior Sarah Scarpill who was able to climb the leaderboard today. Scarpill put together rounds of 78 (+6), 79 (+7), and 73 (+1) to finish the tournament at 230 (+14) and in a tie for 45th.

Competing as individuals in the tournament were sophomore Erin Mulcahy and freshmen Hayley Dye and Nicole Jones. E. Mulcahy carded rounds of 72 (E), 75 (+3), and 77 (+5) to leave her in a tie for 26th with a 224 (+8). Dye recorded rounds of 74 (+2), 79 (+7), and 76 (+4) to finish at 229 (+13) and in a tie for 40th. Jones shot rounds of 84 (+12), 77 (+5), and 80 (+8) to leave her in a tie for 76th at 241 (+25).

The Oilers will be back in action Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at the Legends Invitational in Bradenton, Fl.
