Oilers Finish Third in Fall Finale

Bradenton, Fl.- The Oilers completed their final tournament of the fall, the Rollins Legend Invitational, Tuesday, Nov. 1 at Bradenton Country Club. The tournament played host to some of the best competition in the country as teams from around the nation travel to the event. Notable teams include #1 Dallas Baptist, #3 Lynn, #4 Nova Southeastern, #8 Saint Leo, #10 Lee, #12 Tampa,#19 Lander, #20 Flagler, #21 Columbus State, #24 Florida Southern, and #25 Rollins. The Oilers, who are currently ranked sixth in the nation, finished in third after a 54-hole total of 890 (+38) with rounds of 295 (+11 ), 301 (+17), and 294 (+10). They finished 22 shots behind tournament champion, Lynn.

Leading the Oilers was junior Gabby Woods. Woods recorded rounds of 75 (+4), 72 (+1), and 71 (E). Woods, who is currently ranked 81st in Division II by Golfstat, finished tied for seventh at five-over par in a field that highlighted the best individual talent in the nation. She finished just two strokes behind Maria Hoyos of Lynn who is currently the top player in Division II women's golf. 

Assisting Woods was sophomore Mary Kelly Mulcahy. Mulcah finished in a tie for eleventh at seven-over par. M. Mulcahy carded rounds of 72 (+1) and 76 (+5) before carding a round of 72 (+1) today to move herself five spots up the leaderboard. Senior Jill Schmitmeyer finished in a tie for 27th at 13-over par after recording rounds of 74 (+3), 77 (+6), and 75 (+4). Fellow senior Danbi Kim carded rounds of 74 (+3), 76 (+5), and 78 (+7) to leave herself in a tie for 34th at 15-over par. Rounding out the lineup for the Oilers was sophomore Erin Mulcahy. E. Mulcahy shot back-to-back rounds of 78 (+7) followed by a 76 (+5) today to put her in a tie for 49th at 19-over par. 

Competing as individuals in the event were junior Sarah Scarpill and freshman Hayley Dye. Scarpill carded rounds of 84 (+13), 74 (+3), and 77 (+6) to finish in a tie for 60th at 22-over par. Dye recorded rounds of 79 (+8), 75 (+4), and 84 (+13) to leave herself in a tie for 72nd at 25-over par. 

This tournament concludes the Oilers fall season. They will be back in action, Mar. 12-14 as they travel to Sevierville, Tenn. for the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate.
