Oilers Nipped by Storm 10-9 in Championship

The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team fell 10-9 to Lake Erie College on May 5 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship in Painesville, Ohio. The loss ends the Oilers season as they finish with a school record 15-4 record.

The Oilers jumped out to a 4-0 lead during the first eight minutes of the game before the Storm rallied to score eight straight unanswered goals and head into the break with an 8-4 advantage on the scoreboard. Findlay then opened the second half with three straight goals before Lake Erie got on the board in the final period.

Down 10-7, Emma Spellman scored with just over eight minutes remaining to cut the lead to two. Stellar defensive play by the Oilers kept the score the same until Ciara Burud found the back of the net with only 1:16 to play. The Oilers would then have one final opportunity to tie the game, but couldn't get a shot off as time expired.

The Oilers, who suffered three of their four losses this season against Lake Erie, received three goals each from Allison Kelly and Burud. Jacelyn Litman, Hannah Peebles and Spellman contributed the other goals in the loss.

Claire Ferrell made 16 saves in the loss.

As a team, the Oilers set new school records for goals (319), assists (180), points (499), shots (710), shots on goal (544), ground balls (524), caused turnovers (232) and fewest goals allowed (103).

Olivia Sherman established a new school record for assists in a season (33) as well.
