Oilers Take Loss on the Road at IUP

Indiana, PA – The University of Findlay Women's Lacrosse team took a 17-5 loss on their first road game of the season to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks on Saturday, Feb. 23. The loss takes the Oilers to 0-2 on the season.

The Hawks started the game off by scoring three quick goals to take an early lead. Junior Ciara Burud fought back and scored the Oilers first goal of the game in the 21st minute. Freshman Danielle Dilorenzo then quickly added another goal to cut the Hawks lead to one.

Another goal for the Hawks in the 17th minute increased their lead back to two, but less than two minutes later senior Brie Caruso was able to fire back with a goal from an assist by sophomore Allie Kazprzyk. The Oilers were fighting to keep up with the Hawks, but finished the half down 7-3.

The second half began with two quick goals by the Hawks to increase their lead to 9-3. Burud then added another goal for the Oilers with a free position shot in the 24th minute. Five more goals were scored by the Hawks to take a dominating lead over the Oilers.

Freshman Liz Zatalava scored the fifth and final goal of the game for the Oilers with nine minutes remaining in the game. The Oilers were unable to catch the Hawks as they went on to score three more goals before the end of the game.

Freshman Kendra Lindell, senior Annie Painter, Kaspryzk, and Burud each picked up 2 ground ball a piece while sophomore Hallie Canfield had two caused turnovers.

Senior Claire Ferrell took the loss in net making 5 saves. Freshmen Rachel Bornstein also made 5 saves on the day.

The Oilers will be playing on the road against Wheeling Jesuit on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 12:00PM.
