Oilers Claim their First Win Against Cardinals

Wheeling, WV – The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team won their first game of the season against the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals on Sunday, Feb. 24. The final score was 21-8. The Oilers are now 1-2 on the season.

The Oilers came out strong taking a six goal lead before the Cardinals put one on the board. The Cardinals tried to make a comeback, but the Oilers had enough momentum to finish the first half ahead 14-6. In the second half, the Findlay defense was able to hold the Cardinals to only scoring two goals, while the offense put up another seven goals to secure the win.

There were nine different goal scorers in the win over the Cardinals. Junior Ciara Burud had a huge game with eight goals and one assist. She also had three draw controls, two ground balls, and two caused turn overs.

Seniors Brie Caruso and Hannah Peebles each added two goals and three assists apiece, while sophomore Hanna Morgan had three goals. Freshmen Madi Devries had two goals while Mackenzie Cole, Ashleigh Lesser, Liz Zatalava and Danielle Dilorenzo all had one goal apiece in the game as well.

Junior defender Brittany Stephens had five ground balls and two caused turnovers while freshman Kendra Lindell had three ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers.

Senior Claire Ferrell started in goal for the Oilers and made eight saves in the victory while freshman Rachel Bornstein made two saves.

The Oilers will be back on the field for their first home game of the season on Friday, March 1 against Lindenwood (MO) at 3:00PM at Armstrong Sports Complex.
