Stephens Named G-MAC Defensive Player of the Year

The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team had six individuals earn all-Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) honors during the 2019 season and junior Brittany Stephens was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

Stephens has been the catalyst for the Oilers defensive attack, which leads the league in caused turnovers per game at 10.65. Stephens, who was also a first team all-conference pick, has recorded 49 ground balls and caused 23 turnovers for the Oilers in 2019.

Joining Stephens on the first team were seniors Brie Caruso and Claire Ferrell, and junior Ciara Burud.

Caruso has scored 39 goals this season for the Oilers and has also registered 13 assists. She leads the team with 38 draw controls and has 11 caused turnovers.

Ferrell has an 8-9 record in goal for Findlay and has registered 129 saves to go along with 27 ground balls while Burud has scored a team-high 46 goals and has also caused a team-high 31 turnovers. She has also picked up 55 ground balls and has 16 assists.

Senior Hannah Peebles and sophomore Hallie Canfield were also rewarded for their efforts this season as they each captured second team honors.

Peebles leads the team with 65 points and has set a new Findlay record with 40 assists this year. She has also scored 25 goals.

Canfield meanwhile has 30 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers.
