Rougnecks Wrap Up Inaugural G-MAC Wrestling Championships

Tiffin, Ohio – The University of Findlay wrestling team competed on the second and final day of the inaugural Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Wrestling Championship Duals in Tiffin, Ohio on Saturday, Feb. 2. After defeating Alderson Broaddus on day one, the Roughnecks went 1-2 in their three duals on Saturday.

The day began with a first round matchup against the eventual league champion, Lake Erie Storm. Ryan Skonieczny earned a 7-3 win at 141 pounds to get Findlay on the board and Josh Wimer followed that up with a 7-2 victory at 149 pounds. At 184 pounds, Armani Robinson was tied 3-3 with no. 12 Jesse Palser when Palser had to bow out due to medical forfeit. Findlay's Keigan Yuhas then earned a victory by pin in his 197-pound bout to tie the team score at 18-18, but with a forfeit in the 285 pound weight class, the Rougnecks were defeated by a score of 24-18.

Next up was a dual with Kentucky Wesleyan. This matchup ended with a decisive win for Findlay as they cruised to a 44-6 victory over the Panthers with the only six points for KWC coming via forfeit at heavyweight. Zach Collins, Mike Stewart, Skonieczny, Josh Wimer, Justin West, and Mark Trifelos all earned wins for Findlay. Stewart won his matchup by major decision at 11-0 while Skonieczny and West each won by tech fall. Wimer dominated his opponent yet again as he earned a pin against KWC's James Loi.

Findlay's final opponent of the event was the host school, Tiffin. The Dragons would defeat the Rougnecks by a score of 30-9. Zachary Collins and Mike Stewart got Findlay started with wins at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively. But Tiffin would win seven of the next eight bouts to secure the win in their home arena.

The Rougnecks now turn their sights to the NCAA DII Regional which will be held on Feb. 22-23 in West Liberty, West Virginia.
