Six Wrestlers Earn Academic All-American | Team Ranks 15th in Nation in GPA

Findlay, Ohio – On Tuesday, April 7, the National Wrestling Coaches Association announced their 2020 Academic All-American Teams and Individuals. The University of Findlay wrestling team ranked 15th in the country with a team GPA of 3.19 and was the only school from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) in the top 20.

Findlay also had six individuals named academic all-American as redshirt freshman Caleb Carpenter (3.60 / Criminal Justice), redshirt freshman Alex Isbrandt (3.95 / Business Management), redshirt freshman Branson Proudlock (3.79 / Nursing), redshirt freshman Hunter Reed (3.46 / Marketing), redshirt senior Devin Rogers (3.07 / Pharmacy), and redshirt sophomore Derek Sharp (3.46 / Middle Childhood Education) all earned the honor.

A total of 267 student-athletes from 49 institutions were honored individually. Half of the national qualifiers to the 2020 NCAA Division II National Championships were among those honored, with 91 of the 267 wrestlers also being 2020 National Qualifiers.

In order for a student-athlete to be nominated to the Division II Scholar All-American Team, he must have a minimum 3.4 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.2 for those who qualified for the 2020 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships. The athlete must also have competed in a minimum of five dates of competition.
