Proudlock Claims 1st at Findlay Open

Results

The University of Findlay wrestling program held their annual Findlay Open on Nov. 20 inside the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex.

Junior Branson Proudlock led the way after taking home first place honors in the 141-pound weight class. Proudlock began the tournament with a major decision, 9-1 victory over Gannon's Jimmy Ryan before pinning Gannon's Caleb Chaves in 4:30. He then scored a 14-0 major decision victory against Indianapolis' Ray Rioux before reaching the final with an 11-4 win against Tiffin's Elijah Hunter. Proudlock then sealed first place honors with a medical forfeit win against Mercyhurst's Alexis Soriano.

Senior James Wimer finished as the runner-up at 157 after posting a 4-1 record. He claimed a 7-0 win against Indianapolis' Owen Zablocki in the first round before pinning Tiffin's Collin Adkins in 58 seconds during the second. He then scored an 18-6 major decision victory against Indiana Tech's Nick Gates before beating Ashland's Chance Esmont in sudden death at 6-4. Wimer then was forced out of the competition in the finals and took a medical forfeit.

Freshman Ashton Anderson took third place at 133 after finishing with a 4-1 record. He secured third place with a 9-8 win over Central Michigan's Vince Perez.

Junior Hunter Reed recorded a fifth place finish at 174 as he completed the tournament with a 4-2 record while Senior Keigan Yuhas went 4-2 at 285.

The Roughnecks will be back in action again on Dec. 4 in Kenosha, Wis. at the Jim Koch Open.
