Roughnecks Take on 43rd Midwest Classic Day 1

Indianapolis, IN- The University of Findlay wrestling team traveled to Indianapolis on Dec 17 to compete in the 43rd Midwest Classic. The invite saw 41 teams hit the mat in day one of competition and the Oilers were able to secure 15.5 team points and currently sit in 31st place. 

133- Junior Gavin Ritter finished the day with a 2-2 record and earned the Roughnecks 2.5 team points. Ridder won his first match by a 11-0 major decision over Ben Fielding (Belmont Abbey). He would lose his second match by an 8-2 decision to Reece Barnhardt (Mary), win his third match in a 7-3 decision to Nathan Wishne (William Jewell) and would round out the day with a loss to #12 Kaden Anderlik (Upper Iowa). 

165- Sophomore Gary Nilson would round out day one with a 2-2 record while scoring .5 team points. Nilson would win his first and third matches of the day by decision, 10-4 Clinton Morrisette (King) and 5-0 Dylan Mansor (Tiffin). His two losses would come in his second and fourth matches when he lost in a 10-3 decision to David Hunsberger (Lander) and a 6-1 decision to David Hunsberger (Lander). 

174- Junior Andrew Knick earned the Roughnecks 2.5 team points as he finished the day 2-2. Knick would win his first match by Fall in 3:40 to Grady Tisdale (Emmanuel) and his third by a 6-3 decision to Cole Eason (Ouachita Baptist). Knick lost his second match by a 9-1 major decision to #6 Max Bruss (Mary) and his fourth by an 11-5 decision Alexander Holguin (Colorado Mesa). 

197- Junior Jacob Kowalski earned the team 4.5 points and finished with a 2-2 record after day one. Kowalski won his first match by Fall in 0:17 to Jacob Ebner (King) and his third match by fall in 0:21 to Caleb Wunsch (Newman). He would lose his second match by a 6-1 decision to #11 Matt Kaylor (Mary) and his fourth match by Fall in 4:23 to Anthony Yacovetti (Lander). 

285- Senior Keigan Yuhas would finish the day 2-2 and earn the Oilers their final 4.5 team points of the day. Yuhas would win his first match by Fall in 1:29 over Matthew Ludwig (Quincy) and his third match by Fall in 0:35 over De`Leon Freeman (Newman). Yuhas would lose his second match by decision to Clayton Ours (Tiffin) and his fourth match by an 11-4 decision over Nico Ramirez (Mount Olive). 

The action will continue for Findlay as they move on to day two of the competition at the Midwest Classic.
