Oilers Take Over First Place in G-MAC | Down Panthers 2-1

Box Score

Findlay, Ohio – It was a battle of the two top teams in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) on Thursday, Sep. 20 in Findlay as Ohio Dominican invaded DeHaven Field to take on the Oilers. In their two matchups last season, the Panthers outscored the Oilers 8-0 including a 7-0 win on Findlay's final game of the season, but on Thursday, Findlay turned the tables, earning a 2-1 victory and taking over the top spot in the league standings. The Oilers now have a 5-0-2 record overall and 4-0-2 in league play while the Panthers fall to 5-2-0 and 4-1-0 in conference.

The teams spent the first 45 minutes feeling each other out as the teams would combine for just five shots in the first half, two of which were on goal. But just 75 seconds into the second half, the Oilers struck as senior Megan Kupetz found the back of the net off an assist from sophomore Shannon Marsh to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

It took 16 minutes, but ODU did eventually tie the game up at 1-1 to regain some momentum.

Findlay possessed the ball for much of the rest of the game as they would rip off four shots in the next 11 minutes, the last of which found the net to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead. That goal was again scored off the leg of Kupetz off of an assist by freshman Olivia Frank.

Kupetz was the unquestioned leader in the contest as she fired five shots, three on goal, and scored both of the Oilers' goals. No other player for Findlay had more than one shot attempt.

Junior goalie Anna Money was, again, solid in the net as she allowed just one goal on six ODU shot attempts. Money made two saves in a full 90 minutes of action.

The first place Oilers don't get much of a break as they take on the third place Cedarville Yellow Jackets this Saturday, Sep. 22 at DeHaven Field in Findlay. That match will begin at 4:00 pm.
