Oilers Lose in Overtime to Senators

Elkins, WV – The University of Findlay women's soccer team lost in a close overtime match against Davis and Elkins on Saturday, October 6. The final score was 2-1 in favor of the Senators. The Oilers move to 8-2-2 on the season with a record of 7-2-2 for conference play. The Senators are now 5-4-2 with a conference record of 5-4-1.

The first half was a back and forth battle, with each team taking five shots. Each team also had one corner kick opportunity. However, the Oilers nor the Senators were able to put the ball in the back of the net and the half ended scoreless.

Shots continued to fire in the second half with each team eager to score the first goal of the game. In the 62nd minute, sophomore Shannon Marsh was able to get the ball to freshman Olivia Frank for a goal to put the Oilers on the board.

As the game was winding down, the Senators were able to make a comeback in the 83rd minute with a goal to tie the game at 1-1. The match ended in a tie and was sent to overtime.

Overtime began with the Senators getting a shot off that hit the cross bar. Then in the 96th minute, a corner kick opportunity led to the game winning goal by Davis and Elkins.

Senior Megan Kupetz and sophomore Shannon Marsh each had three shots apiece. Sophomores Karleigh Clere and Paige Casto contributed two shots each for the Oilers as well.

Junior Anna Money was in net for the Oilers and made three saves in the loss.

The Oilers will be playing at home at DeHaven Field on Saturday, October 13 against the Tiffin Dragons. The conference matchup is set to begin at 4:00 PM.
