Oilers End Season in Great Midwest Semifinal | Earn Most Wins in 18 Years
Marietta, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's soccer team traveled south for their Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) semifinal matchup with top seeded Ohio Valley University on Thursday, Nov. 1 and fell by a score of 4-0. With the loss, the Oilers end their 2018 campaign with an 11-4-2 record while the Fighting Scots move on to the championship game with a 15-2-3 record. Findlay's 11 wins are the most since they won 11 games 18 years ago and their two second team all-conference players are the first time since 2012 that the Oilers have had two players earn either first or second team honors.
When Ohio Valley and Findlay met two weeks ago, the teams needed double-overtime to decide a winner. In Thursday's semifinal, Ohio Valley wasted no time as they found the back of the net just six-and-a-half minutes into the contest. Seven minutes later, the Fighting Scots extended that lead to 2-0.
The Oilers managed eight shots to close out the half, including one by senior Karis Dewalt that bounced off the crossbar, but were unable to score.
Less than two minutes into the second half, OVU put the pressure on with another goal and 13 minutes after that, scored again to build a seemingly insurmountable 4-0 lead.
The Oilers outshot the Fighting Scots 22-to-19, although just four of Findlay's shots were on goal while OVU had nine.
Sophomore Samantha Church led Findlay with four shots while senior Megan Kupetz, who last night was named second team all-G-MAC, and junior Ashley Rings both had three attempts.
Junior Anna Money took the loss in the net. She played 67:37 in goal and made three saves.
Ranked outside the top ten teams in the region, the Oilers season ends at 11-4-2 while OVU, ranked eighth in the Midwest Region, moves on to Saturday's championship game looking to make their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Midwest Regional.
