#23 Oilers Hold Off Late Charge by Lake Erie

Box Score

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay soccer team, playing their first game in program history as a nationally ranked team, took down the Lake Erie College Storm on Friday, Oct. 25 at DeHaven Field by a score of 2-1. Ranked no. 23 in the nation, the Oilers remain undefeated at 10-0-1 on the year with a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) record of 8-0-1. The Storm fall to 5-7-2 on the year with a 2-7-1 mark in league play.

Offense was hard to come by Friday as both teams were stout defensively. It took 20 minutes for Findlay to break through when freshman Addie Graham knifed a ball into the box where junior Paige Casto was waiting to send it home with the right foot, putting the Oilers ahead 1-0.

Findlay added to their lead 13 minutes into the second half with a goal off the foot of freshman standout Jayla Campbell, who now has five goals in her first season of action.

With just over a minute left to play, the Storm, on a corner kick, did something that only two teams had done all season to the Oilers. They scored a goal. The ball was bounced around in a crowd of players and squirted into the back of the net, cutting the lead to 2-1. The goal ended a streak of five consecutive shutouts for the Oilers.

In the game, senior Sierra Peacock led Findlay with five shots while Campbell and sophomore Olivia Frank took three.

Nicole Burke earned the win in the net in 45 minutes of action while senior Anna Money, who started the game, got the no-decision in her 45 minutes of scoreless action.

Findlay is back on the pitch in their final regular season home game of the year on Sunday, Oct. 27 when they play host to Ursuline College. That game will kick off at 3:30 pm.
