Historic Season Ends in NCAA Regional Semifinal

Findlay, Ohio – Sometimes, the ball just doesn't bounce your way. On Saturday, Nov. 23, in front of a crowd of 516, the University of Findlay women's soccer team outplayed their opponent, but a short lapse was all the University of Indianapolis needed to score and the Greyhounds escaped Findlay with a 1-0 victory to advance in the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The Oilers' season ends with a 14-3-2 record, the most wins in a season since 1997, and a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) regular season championship.

After a slow start in the first game of the tournament on Thursday, the Oilers came out of the gates Saturday with a different level of intensity. Findlay possessed the ball on UIndy's half of the field for much of the first 30 minutes of action and managed six shots over that stretch to just one shot for the Greyhounds.

The final 15 minutes of the half were a battle as neither team created a good scoring opportunity and both teams went into the break scoreless.

Out of the half, the Oilers kept their foot on the gas and had three good shot attempts in the first three minutes, but none found the back of the net.

In the 58^th minute, UIndy saw a lapse in the Findlay defense and took advantage as Amanda Meyer crossed the ball into the box and Alexi Hardi shot it past a diving Anna Money, putting the Greyhounds on the board.

Findlay kept the pressure on, but time after time, shots were either just wide or were deflected away and the Oilers never hit pay dirt.

In total, the Oilers took 22 shots in the game while the Greyhounds managed just six.

Adele Stradling led the team with five shots while Olivia Frank, Jayla Campbell, and Sierra Peacock each had four.

The loss ends a historic season for the Oilers who have established themselves as true competitor in the region.
