Oilers Stun Division I Kent State in Exhibition Contest

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay volleyball team kicked off their 2018-19 campaign with an exhibition contest against NCAA Division I opponent, Kent State University on Friday, Aug. 17 in Croy Gymnasium. After winning the first two sets of the match, the Oilers dropped the third, but rallied in the fourth to earn the 3-1 (25-16, 25-17, 19-25, 30-28) victory.

The Oilers won the first four points of the match to take a 4-0 lead, but the Golden Flashes later battled back to tie the set up at 11-11. However, Findlay would win 14 of the next 19 points to secure the first set victory.

In the second set, the Oilers again handled their business late, winning nine of the final 12 points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

After dropping the third set, Findlay trailed by as much as ten points in the fourth set at 20-10, but the Oilers clawed their way back to tie the set at 24-24. With points at a premium, sophomore Madison Moore picked up kills on four of Findlay's final six points to help the Orange and Black seal the victory.

Moore was a big factor in the victory as she tied a team-high with 14 kills with a .292 hitting percentage. The 6'1" sophomore also led the squad with three blocks in the match.

Senior Amanda Winner also picked up 14 kills for Findlay and tied a team-high with 11 digs, as well. Junior Ally Duncan also had 11 digs in the match while senior Kara Scherger had ten.

Junior Shelby Kin chipped in double-digit kills, picking up 11 in the match while hitting .500. She had five digs as well.

Senior all-American Hailee Olson helped the Oilers offense to the tune of 45 assists and five kills. She also tallied four digs and two blocks.

Findlay will begin regular season play on Friday, Aug. 24 when they travel to St. Augustine, Fla. to take on Saint Leo and Minnesota Duluth.
