Oilers Win Home Opener | Take Down Arrows with Ease

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay volleyball team began conference play, Wednesday, Sep. 7 against Ursuline College. The Oilers picked up the win over the Arrows by a score of 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-11) and move to 2-6 on the year and 1-0 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). With the loss, Ursuline moves to 2-6 on the season and 0-1 in the G-MAC.

In the first set, the teams went back-and forth leaving the score tied five different times, but it was the Oilers who were always one step ahead. With the score of 21-20 in favor of Findlay, the Oilers outscored the Arrows 4-1 to pick up the first set.  The Oilers hit .333 in the set compared to Ursuline's .115. 

In the second set, the Oilers dominated early. They never trailed, taking five of the first five points. It was a 13-3 run that gave Findlay all the momentum. The Oilers then scored six of the last eight points to seal the set. They hit .304 while the Arrows hit only -.121. 

The third set was initially back-and-forth. With the score tied at 6, the Oilers then scored eleven of the next twelve points to control the match and lead by 9. From there, the set was in favor of the home team. The Oilers dominated hitting .647 compared to the Arrow's .050.

As a team, Findlay hit .406, picking up 35 kills and making only 9 errors. On the other side, Ursuline  hit .000 in the match and recorded 23 kills with 23 errors.

The Oilers win was a joint effort by three dominant forces up front in senior Norah Painter, senior Emma Meyer, and sophomore Journey Blevins. Painter had a team high, eight kills and hit .5 on the night. Meyer recorded seven kills and hit an impressive .875. Blevins also recorded seven kills and hit .278.  Freshman Alana Pohlman chipped in five kills.

Freshman Emma White had a team-high 30 assists. Sophomore Ava Doster contributed fourteen digs and three aces. Emma Meyer led the team in blocks with four on the night.

The Oilers will be back in action as they hit the road for a non-conference matchup with Edinboro University on Sep. 9 at 6pm.
