Findlay Falls in Late Rally to Edinboro

Erie, Pa.- The University of Findlay volleyball team traveled to Erie, Pa. for the Edinboro Invitational, Friday, Sep. 9 in which they faced the host, Edinboro University. The Oilers fell to the Fighting Scots by a score of 3-1 (25-16, 25-22, 15-25, 26-26) and move to 2-7 on the year and remain  1-0 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). With the win, Edinboro moves to 7-2 on the season.

In the first set, the Fighting Scots took the lead early and never looked back. They went on a 7-3 run to start the set and their lead grew to nine which they held on two different occasions. The Scots won the first set with ease, hitting .346 to the Oilers .061.

In the second set, the teams went back-and-forth. With the score tied at 18, the Oilers were outscored 7-4 for the Scots to pick up the second set. Edinboro hit .234 while Findlay hit .104.

The third set was close throughout but favored the Oilers from the beginning. It was an 8-3 run by Findlay that sealed the set for the Oilers. Findlay hit .375 compared to Edinboro's -.040 to take the set with ease. 

In the fourth set, the Oilers found themselves trailing throughout the set. With the score at 18-14 in favor of the Scots the Oilers made a big push outscoring Edinboro 5-1 to tie the score at 19. The score would then be tied five more times as the set continued. With the score tied at 24, the Scots recorded a kill by Bella Burrelli before the Oilers made an error to give the fourth and final set to Edinboro.

As a team, Findlay hit .194, picking up 55 kills and making 25 errors. On the other side, Edinboro  hit .204 in the match and recorded 49 kills with 20 errors.

The Oilers were led by sophomore Journey Blevins who recorded a team-high 15 kills and hit .109. Senior Norah Painter contributed 12 kills and hit .265. Senior Emma Meyer chipped in 8 kills while McKenzie Hoelscher added 6.

Freshman Emma White recorded 45 assists. Sophomore Ava Doster contributed 22 digs. Seniors Emma Meyer and Natalie Maras both recorded three blocks on the night.

The Oilers will be back in action tomorrow with two games slated with Mercyhurst University and Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania. They are scheduled to begin at 1:00pm and 5:00pm.
