Oilers Win Close Contest in Columbus for Ninth Straight Victory

Columbus, Ohio – The University of Findlay volleyball team kept its' hot streak alive, defeating the Ohio Dominican Panthers 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-17) on Friday, Sep. 30. With the victory, the Oilers have now won nine consecutive games, the longest win streak in the program since winning the first ten matches of the 2017 season. Findlay now has a record of 11-7 and are still perfect in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play at 7-0. Ohio Dominican falls to 6-12 on the year with a 2-6 record in the G-MAC.

In the first set, the Oilers got down by a score of 15-8 early on and, despite closing that gap the three points at 19-16, Ohio Dominican still went on to win the first. The Oilers did not do themselves any favors, hitting just .184 in the first.

Over the next two sets, neither team led by more than five points, but Findlay held the advantage in both, winning sets two and three to take a 2-1 lead.

In the third, both teams were tied at 12 before the Oilers went on a 13-5 run to close out the match.

Sophomore Journey Blevins, who has won three consecutive G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week awards, led the way with 19 kills on Friday and was third on the team with eight digs. Senior Norah Painter tallied 14 kills and hit .314.

Freshman standout Alana Pohlman finished with seven kills while senior Emma Meyer picked up six kills and led the defensive effort at the net with seven blocks.

Freshman Emma White, who ranks sixth in Division II in assists this season, added 45 assists to her total and also added 12 digs. Findlay's leader in that category was sophomore Ava Doster who had 20 digs.

As September ends and October begins, the Oilers begin an important part of their schedule. Next up is Cedarville on the road at 5:30 pm on Saturday, Oct. 1  followed by a game next Friday at Ashland.
