Stollings | Schmitmeyer Named 20-21 Athletes of the Year

The University of Findlay athletic department has announced their annual Male and Female Athlete of the Year winners for the 2020-21 season. Swimming and Diving standout Tim Stollings was tabbed the James D. Houdeshell Male Athlete of the Year while women's golf star Jill Schmitmeyer captured the Sharon G. Milligan Female Athlete of the Year honor.

Sophomore Tim Stollings had an incredible year for the Oilers as he won a NCAA Division II national championship in the 100-yard butterfly and was named All-American in the 100-yard backstroke with a runner-up finish and the 50-yard freestyle as well.

Stollings, who was voted the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Athlete of the Year, also had a hand in winning seven conference titles in 2021 while setting four G-MAC records. He won the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard butterfly, and 100-yard backstroke at the conference meet while teaming up to capture gold in the 200 and 400-yard medley relays and 400-yard freestyle relay.

Schmitmeyer meanwhile was tabbed the 2021 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Player of the Year for the Oilers and was voted first team all-conference. She also secured second team NCAA Division II All-American honors and was an all-East Region pick after ranking 33rd in the nation in scoring average at 75.54.

During the season, Schmitmeyer also picked up a pair of tournament victories. She won the Tiffin Fall Invitational on Oct. 11 and claimed medalist honors at the Cav Classic n Apr. 12.
