Derek Lynch Earns G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week Following Jawdropping Performance

Findlay, Ohio – On Monday, Sep. 13, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) announced its football Athlete of the Week selections for week two of the 2021 season. After a record-breaking performance in a win over UNC Pembroke on Saturday, University of Findlay junior Derek Lynch was selected as the conference's Offensive Player of the Week.

A first-team all-conference selection in the spring season, Lynch put together one of the top offensive performances in conference and school history on Saturday as the running back tallied 45 carries for 303 yards and two touchdowns. He also added one catch for seven yards out of the backfield for a total of 310 all-purpose yards.

Lynch's 45 carries on Saturday set both the Findlay and G-MAC record while his 303 rushing yards established a new conference record and rank second at UF. With 310 all-purpose yards, Lynch ranks eighth in conference history for all-purpose yards in a game.

It was the 24th time in Findlay history that a tailback has picked up 200 yards on the ground and the first since Brian Benson rushed for 221 against Malone in 2018. Lynch is just the second player in program history to run for 300 yards in a game. The only other is Daiquone Ford who ran for 317 yards against Lake Erie in 2013.

This is Lynch's first G-MAC Player of the Week award of his career.
