Oilers Host Timberwolves | Spartans this Week

The Oilers will host Northwood University and St. Thomas Aquinas University this week in Niekamp Arena. They will play the Timberwolves at 7pm on Nov. 18 and face the Spartans on Nov. 20 at 1pm.

Hope House

The Oilers will donate all proceeds from the gate against Northwood to Hope House to aid in their fundraising for National Homelessness Awareness Month, which includes Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week (Nov. 13-20). The annual program allows people to come together across the country to draw attention to the problems of homelessness and hunger.

Hope House in Findlay provides housing solutions and support and education to meet the needs of individuals and families facing homelessness in the community.

Alumni Day

The Oilers game on Saturday against St. Thomas Aquinas will be an alumni day for all former men's basketball players. There will be a reception following the game in the Alumni Memorial Union on campus.

Series Information (Northwood)

The Oilers hold a 25-8 lead in the all-time series against Northwood dating back to the 1962-63 campaign when they defeated the Timberwolves 92-73.

The Timberwolves came away with an 87-81 win over the Oilers the last time they met in 2019.

The Oilers shot 49.1 percent (27-of-55) from the floor and made 7-of-16 (43.8%) of their three point attempts. Northwood meanwhile connected on 52.6 percent (30-of-57) of their field attempts and made 9-of-22 (40.9%) of their three point tries.

Aaron Overhiser led the Oilers with 16 points and five rebounds while Tommy Schmock had 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals in the loss.

Nathan Bruns added 13 points while Ethan Linder came off the bench to provide nine points and five rebounds.

The Timberwolves were led by Trey McBride and Ja'Kavien Lewis who scored 24 and 21 points, respectively.

Series Information (St. Thomas Aquinas)

The Oilers own a 2-0 lead in the all-time series against St. Thomas Aquinas dating back to the 2017-18 campaign when Findlay scored a 69-65 victory in Evansville, Ind. at the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic.

The Oilers defeated the Spartans 79-62 the last time the two programs played in 2019.

The Oilers fell behind early and battled back before outscoring the Spartans by a 45-26 margin in the second half. Their defense fueled the run as they forced 28 turnovers, which led to 18 steals.

The Oilers ended the game by hitting 56.9 percent (29-of-51) of their shot attempts, which included a 7-of-17 (41.2%) showing from three point range. The Spartans meanwhile made 48.9 percent (23-of-47) of their field goal attempts and were 5-of-15 (33.3%) from long range.

Ethan Linder led the Oilers with 14 points and four steals while Tommy Schmock had 13 points, seven assists, and five steals.

Aaron Overhiser reached double figures with 11 points and five rebounds while Andrew Emrick came off the bench to provide 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting.

Nathan Bruns also provided a spark off the bench with eight points, six rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal.

Findlay

The Oilers are 1-1 on the season. Senior guard Tre'Maine Gray has led the Oilers and is averaging 17.0 points per game. Junior forward Nathan Bruns is also averaging in double figures at 12.0 points per game to go along with 7.0 rebounds per contest.
