Oilers Fall Short of Thrilling Comeback | Grzegorczyk All-Tournament

Lexington, Ky.- The University of Findlay men's golf team completed the Findlay Spring Invite today, Mar. 29 at the University Club of Kentucky, Big Blue Course. The Oilers finished in second place after posting scores of 293 (+5), 279 (-9), and 283 (-5). They finished the tournament at nine-under par, finishing one stroke behind the tournament champions Grand Valley State University (GVSU).  

A chilly start in freezing temperatures, the Oilers completed round two which was suspended due to darkness the previous day. After day one the Oilers sat nine back of Grand Valley State University. With the blustering winds, the Oilers finished round two at nine-under par in order to bring the Lakers lead to two with 18-holes of play. With twenty miles per hour gusts at 29 degrees, the Findlay men's golf team took to the course to take down regional foe GVSU.  

Leading the way was senior Tanner Grzegorczyk. He finished in third place overall after rounds of 72 (E), 68 (-4), and 70 (-2) putting him at six-under par for the tournament. Grzegorczyk's six-under par over the 54-holes of play is the third best score in program history. Grzegorczyk, who is individually ranked as the 65th best male golfer in NCAA Division II, was in elite company atop the leaderboard. The tournament champion, Joel Sylven (UMSL) ranks 107th in NCAA Division II, and the tournament runner-up Charles Delong (GVSU) ranks 5th in NCAA Division II.  

Following Grzegorczyk was sophomore Justin Atkinson who made a huge push today to move thirty-one spots up the leaderboard. He tied for twelfth place at even par after scores of 76 (+4), 71 (-1), 69 (-3). Senior Parker Haynes and sophomore Donnie Professori also finished even par with Atkinson. Haynes posted scores of 72 (E), 72 (E), 72 (E). Professori carded rounds of 73 (+1), 71 (-1), 72 (E). The three players finished tied for twelfth. Rounding out the lineup was senior Brock Kehres who finished tied for 20th. Kehres posted rounds of 76 (+4), 69 (-3), 72 (E) leaving him at one-over par for the tournament.  

Competing as individuals in the event were senior Hunter Foltz, freshman Jonathan Green, and junior Nathan Osborn. Foltz and Green both finished the tournament at three-over par and finished tied for 30th. Foltz posted rounds of 75 (+3), 75 (+3), 69 (-3). Green carded 70 (-2), 74 (+2), 75 (+3). Junior Nathan Osborn finished at four-over par and in a tie for 36th with scores of 71 (-1), 73 (+1), 76 (+4). 

Findlay will be back in action Apr. 4 and 5 at the West Liberty Invite in Wheeling, WV hosted by West Liberty University.
