Oilers Make National Championship Debut | Tied for Twelfth

Detroit, Mich.- The University of Findlay men's golf team opened up the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championship with a 305 (+17) on May 16 at TPC Michigan. In their first ever appearance in the event, the Oilers are tied for twelfth at the event and 17 strokes off the leader, the University of Indianapolis.

The Oilers were led by sophomore Justin Atkinson. Atkinson shot an even par round of 72 and is tied for ninth. He recorded two bogeys, two birdies, and fourteen pars. 

Following Atkinson was senior Tanner Grzegorczyk who finished at four-over par on the day, carding a round of 76 putting him in a tie for 44th. Sophomore Donnie Professori came in at six-over par, finishing with a 78, putting him in a tie for 65th. Seniors Parker Haynes and Brock Kehres rounded out the lineup for Findlay. Haynes finished at seven-over par, carding a 79. He is in a tie for 74th. Meanwhile, Kehres came into the clubhouse at eight-over par, finishing his round with an 80. He is in a tie for 81st place. 

The Oilers will be back in action tomorrow for the second round of stroke play. The top eight in the standings after stroke play will advance to match play.
