Cizmar Medals | Day 3 of GLIAC Meet Complete

Saginaw, MI – The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams took on the third day of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship on Friday, Feb. 10. With one day of competition left, the Oilers women find themselves in fifth place with 275.5 points, 34.5 points out of fourth place while the men are in seventh with 128 points.

Women

Meri Cizmar picked up her second third team all-GLIAC award in 2017, this one coming in the 100 yard backstroke. Cizmar swam in the final and earned her team 16 points with a third place finish in a time of 55.45, a "B" time in the event. Kathryn Samuelson was in the same final and finished in sixth place with a 57.26 to earn 13 points for the Oilers.

Julia Snell picked up her best GLIAC finish to date in the 100 yard breaststroke. After meeting the "B" standard in the preliminary race, she went even faster in the finals, touching the wall in 1:04.12 to give her a sixth place finish and 13 points for her team. In that same event, Hanna Cederholm took eighth place with a 1:05.16, but did meet the "B" standard in her preliminary race with a 1:04.42, and Alyssa Sauter finished in 15th with a 1:08.40. Rachel Farmer rounded out the point-scorers for Findlay in that event, finishing in 16th in a time of 1:09.76.

A pair of women made the 'B' final in the 200 yard butterfly for Findlay. Katy Kouvaris took 12th place with a time of 2:10.29 while Hannah Schreiber was close behind, taking 13th in 2:10.81. They scored five and four points for the team, respectively.

In the 500 yard freestyle, Emma Barnes earned a trip to the B finals with a prelim time of 5:07.67, more than two seconds under her seed time and just one second off of a "B" time. She then went on to swim a 5:11.13 in the finals which gave her a finish of 16th, earning her team a point.

Men

In the 100 yard backstroke, Trae Gulgin reached the 'B' final and finished the event in 12th place. He bested his seed time in the event, touching the wall in a time of 50.99 and picking up five points for Findlay.

Two Oilers reached the 'B' finals in the 200 yard butterfly on the men's side as Conner Whitaker and Tucker Stocker finished in 14th and 15th for the Orange and Black. They posted times of 1:54.18 and 1:54.38, respectively.

Gerard Niermann scored two points for the men's team in the 500 yard freestyle finishing in 15th with a time of 4:47.66. Alex Matthews was right behind Niermann in the event, posting a time of 4:48.34.

The fourth and final day will begin tomorrow, Feb. 11 at 10am.
