Filippi and Mears-Bentley Named Athletes of the Week

Findlay, Ohio- The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) announced its Athlete of the Week selections for the previous seven-day period and in swimming and diving, the University of Findlay swept both the men's and women's honors. Freshman Matteo Filippi and fellow freshman Emily Mears-Bentley picked up the award after leading their squads to wins over Saginaw Valley State.

Filippi, the Bologna, Italy native, has already made an instant impact for the Oilers. He took first in the 500 free with a time of 4:44.73 after dominating in the 1000 free. Filippi's time of 9:23.84 bested the school record by nearly eight seconds as well as set a new record for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. 

Mears-Bentley picked up two wins on Saturday, in both the 200 and 100 free. Her time in the 200 free was a career best of 1:55.13. She also set a career best in the 100 free with a time of 52.58.

The Oilers will be back in action Nov. 4 and Nov. 5 as they travel to Detroit, Mich. to take on Northern Michigan and Wayne State.
