Oilers Battle G-MAC Opponents in Tri-Meet

Results

Hillsdale, Mich.- The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field team competed in a tri-meet on Friday, Jan. 13 in Hillsdale, Michigan against the Hillsdale Chargers and Ashland Eagles. Findlay's men took second, falling to rival Ashland, while the women were just edged out by the Chargers and Eagles.

Women's Results

Turning in the performance of the night was sophomore Kylie Ray. Ray, an all-American selection last season, has picked up right where she left off.  In the 200m dash, Ray took first with a time of 25.66 seconds, just shy of the Division II provisional mark. Hitting a provisional mark in track and field means an athlete is considered by the NCAA for a place in the national meet. She did just that in the 60m hurdles where she clocked a time of 8.81 seconds to take first in the event. 

Sophomore Taylor Ivory also had a good showing at the meet. Ivory came in fifth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.99 before finishing third in the 200m dash with a time of 26.04 seconds. Also competing with the sprinters was senior Hayley Robinett who finished in third in the 400m dash with a time of 59.69 seconds. 

The Oilers took second through fifth in the 400m hurdles. Freshman Addison Modd led the way for Findlay taking second with a time of 1:11.79. She was followed by fellow freshman Emalea Collins who finished third with a time of 1:15.49.

Sophomore Bailey Chenevey was the top finisher for the Oilers in the mile run. She took fourth with a time of 5:34.48. 

In the field events, the Oilers dominated the shot put. Sophomore Trista Fintel took first with a throw of 15.09m. Senior Paige Emnett took third with a throw of 14.25m. Both distances meet the NCAA Division II provisional mark. 

Sophomore Kassandra Stine took runner-up in the high jump, clearing a distance of 1.57m. Freshman Ashley Sigmon came in a tie for third by clearing 1.52m. 

Senior Meadow Cromer took second in the pole vault by clearing 3.53m. Freshman Natalie Newton came in fourth after clearing 3.38m. 

The Oilers took second, third, and fourth in the long jump. Second place went to junior  Madison Myers with a distance of 5.36m, freshman Katelyn Heath took third with a jump of 5.21m and Ashley Sigmon took fourth with a distance of 5.19m. Sophomore Jessica Hoban took second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.73m.

Men's Results

Junior Eliot Cummings highlighted the night for the Oilers as he finished first in both the long jump and triple jump. He recorded a distance of 7.25m in the long jump before recording a distance of 14.42 in the triple jump. Both jumps meet the NCAA Division II provisional standard. 

In other field event action, senior Gabe Makin took first in the pole vault.  He cleared a height of 5.05m to edge out Ashland's Brayden Jackson by 0.30m. Senior Jacob Michael took third and freshman Conner Douglass came in fourth as they both cleared 4.75m. All three heights meet the Division II provisional standard. 

Senior Max Prenger came in first in the weight throw with a provisional mark of 18.44m. He also took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 14.98m. Junior Hunter Tresnan-Reighard took third in the shot put with a throw of 15.37m. 

In the fastest race of the night, freshmen KJ Upshaw and Kemari Robinson took second and third. Upshaw finished with a time of 7.05 seconds  just edging out Robinson who clocked in at 7.08 seconds. Robinson later finished third in the 200m dash with a time of 22.92 seconds. 

Junior Hassan Sesay finished fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 52.65 seconds. Following closely behind was junior Joe Sadowski who took fifth with a time of 52.87 seconds. 

Senior Nick Rice came in first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.34 seconds. Earlier in the day, Rice finished fifth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.64 seconds.
