Oilers Come Up Short Against Pioneers

The University of Findlay women's basketball team dropped a 74-67 decision to Malone University on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Croy Gymnasium.  The loss gives the Oilers an 11-14 record on the season with an 8-13 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers rallied from a 14-point deficit in the second half to cut the lead to three at 70-67 with 40 seconds remaining, but ran out of gas in the end.

Findlay shot 37.7 percent (23-of-61) from the floor and connected on 8-of-22 (36.4%) shot attempts from three point range in the game.  They also came away with nine steals and held a 21-8 advantage in points off of turnovers.

The Pioneers meanwhile shot 47.4 percent (27-of-57) from the floor and held a 43-30 advantage on the boards.

Junior guard Nikki Gunning led the Oilers with 14 points on 5-of-12 shooting.

Junior guard Ciara Geiger scored 12 points while senior guard Karli Beasley had ten points and four rebounds in the game.

Sophomore forward Margaret Wuebker contributed nine points and seven rebounds while fellow sophomore forward Kelsey Lewis chipped in six points and three boards.

Sydnee Penn led the Pioneers with 18 points.

The Oilers will conclude their regular season next Thursday (2/27) against Hillsdale College.  The game is scheduled to tip at 6 p.m. in Hillsdale, Mich.
