Findlay Wins Back-and-Forth Affair vs. Dominican (NY)

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. - The University of Findlay women's basketball team took on Dominican College of New York on Monday, Dec. 20 to wrap up a two-game trip to Florida. In a game that featured 18 ties and 14 lead changes, the Oilers came away with a 74-70 victory to improve to 4-6 on the season while Dominican has now lost six of its last seven games, including four consecutive losses, to fall to 6-6 on the season.

Findlay splashed a season-high eight triples in Monday's contest to earn a victory in the tightly contested game. The Oilers largest lead came in the first quarter at 22-12 but the Chargers fought back and took their largest lead of the game in the third quarter at 43-37. 

The Oilers overcame 25 turnovers that turned into 31 points for Dominican by shooting 22-of-54 (41%) from the floor including 8-of-18 (44%) from three point range. Free throws were another major factor in the contest as the Oilers scored 22 points from the charity stripe while Dominican managed just eight. The Chargers held a 44-40 advantage on the glass.

Findlay had four players score in double-figures in the win, led by junior Lauren Hapgood who scored 14 points on the strength of a 4-of-9 performance from beyond the three point line. She also had three assists.

Senior Sydney Kin and sophomore Kate Ellis each scored 13 points in the game as both made four field goals and five free throws in the game. Kin tied for the team lead with eight rebounds. Senior Paige Bellman also had eight boards in the game and was another who had double-digits, scoring ten points.

Junior Rachel Cooke scored 11 points and was second on the team with three triples. Cooke had five rebounds, as well.

Senior Amber Schweiger had a well-rounded game as she stuffed the stat sheet with seven points, all of which came from the charity stripe, six rebounds, and a season-high nine assists.

The Oilers will be off until December 31 when they travel to Painesville, Ohio to take on the Lake Erie Storm in the final game of the calender year.
