Oilers Lose Back and Forth Battle with Dragons

Tiffin, OH- The University of Findlay women's basketball team lost a tightly contested battle to the Tiffin University Dragons on Tuesday Jan. 18 by a score of 60-57.  The Oilers now hold a record of 5-10 on the season and 3-6 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) while the Dragons jump to 6-7 on the year and 3-4 in G-MAC play. 

This game saw a lot of back-and-forth action as there was four lead changes in the first quarter which ended with the Oilers on top by a single point at 17-16. Findlay would pull ahead at the beginning of the second half but Tiffin would fight back to tie the game up two separate times but failed to take the lead. The half would end with the Oilers up by three with a score of 33-30. 

The Dragons came out firing in the second half as they lead for over eight minutes of the third quarter leading as the quarter then ended with Tiffin leading 48-42. The Oilers gave one final push towards the end of the fourth quarter and brought the game to within one point with 40 seconds remaining however the Dragons ultimately fought off the Oilers to win by a score of 60-57. 

Senior Sydney Kin led the scoring for the Oilers with a game high 13 points while shooting 6 for 11 from the field with a three pointer. Kin also recorded 5 rebounds on the game and one block. 

Senior Paige Bellman and junior Serena Sammarone both contributed 9 points for the Oilers Bellman shot 3-6 from the field and was a perfect 3-3 from the foul line while Sammarone was 4-7 from the field including 1-1 from behind the 3-point line. Sammarone also led the team with 5 assists in the contest. 

Senior Bridget Landin also chipped in 8 points for Findlay shooting 4-8and led the team with a game high 7 rebounds. 

The Oilers will be back in action on Thursday January 20 when they host the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers in Croy  at 5:30.
