Oilers Beaten by Dragons 73-65

Tiffin, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team fell 73-65 to the University of Tiffin Dragons on Thursday, Feb. 23. This brings their record to 7-20 with a 4-15 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while the Dragons move to 7-21 and 4-15 in conference play. 

Tiffin started off strong, scoring two baskets within the first minute and a half and maintained a two point lead until the five-minute mark when Mckenna Stephens surpassed the Dragons with a 3-pointer. The Oilers kept their lead, ending the first quarter up by one with a score of 19-18.   

The second quarter was back-and-forth but it was ultimately Findlay outscored Tiffin 13-10, heading into halftime with a 32-28 lead.

As has been the issue much of this season, the third quarter haunted the Oilers on Thursday. Findlay turned the ball over five times in that ten-minute stretch and were outscored by the Dragons 24-13, giving Tiffin control of the game. The home team would lead by as much as 11 in the final period and went on to pick up an eight-point win.

Senior Lauren Hapgood had 14 points, four rebounds, and one assist. Junior Kate Ellis put up 13 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Sophomore Chloe Callahan had ten points, two rebounds, three assists. Sophomore Mckenna Stephens added nine points to the Oilers total, all of which she scored in the first quarter. Senior Amber Schweiger had four points, five assists, and four rebounds. Senior Rachel Cooke grabbed six rebounds and had five points.

The Oilers recorded 32 rebounds while the Dragons only had 23. Findlay recorded 49.0% (25-51) from the floor compared to Tiffin who made 54.3%. (25-46).  

The Oilers, eliminated from postseason play, will be back in action for their final game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 25 when they face Hillsdale College at home. That game will tip off at 1pm.
