Oilers Win SVSU Invitational | Kniesly Picks Up Title

Georgetown, Ky.- The 7th-ranked University of Findlay women's golf team finished in first place at the SVSU Spring Invitational, which wrapped up play today, Mar. 20 at Cherry Blossom Golf Course. The Oilers shot 29-over par (305,300). The Oilers won the tournament by thirty strokes over Lewis University. This is their second win of the spring season.  

Senior Kristina Kniesly led the Oilers from start to finish as she picked up her third individual title. She finished two-over par (73,73). Kniesly carded seven birdies over the two days, the highest in the field. She averaged 2.88 on the par threes, 4.05 on the par fours, and 5.25 on the par fives.  

Freshman Mary Kelly Mulcahy finished right behind Kniesly. She finished six-over par (77,73) and finished in solo second. Following Mulcahy was sophomore Gabby Woods who finished tied for fifth place after finishing ten-over par (75,79). Senior Jill Schmitmeyer finished in eighth place with a score of eleven-over par (80,75). Rounding out the lineup was freshman Erin Mulcahy who finished tied for eighteenth at sixteen-over par (80,80).  

Competing as individuals in the event were senior Danbi Kim, sophomore Sarah Scarpill, and junior Lexis Fickel. Kim finished tied for fifth with a score of ten-over par (75,79).  Scarpill posted a thirteen-over par (79,78) and finished tied for tenth. Fickel meanwhile finished at 25-over par (85,84) and tied for 25th.  

Findlay played both the par threes and par fours better than any team in the field. They averaged 3.25 and 4.15 respectively. They also led the field in birdies made with a total of 18 over the two days.  

The Oilers will be back in action again tomorrow, Mar. 21 and Mar. 22 for their home tournament for the Findlay Spring Invitational in Lexington, Ky at the University of Club at Kentucky- Big Blue Course.
