Hall of Fame Ceremony Slated for Jan. 17

The University of Findlay has announced the 2015 Athletic Hall of Fame Class. The induction ceremony will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015.  The inductees include: Doug Coate (‘84, baseball, coaching, football), Tim Hamen (‘99, basketball), Kati (Stedcke) Hunt (‘01, basketball), Damien Spates (‘99, track and field), Nate Weihrauch (‘97, football), Michelle (Biclawski) Williams (‘96, soccer) and Terry Wymer (‘82, Lifetime Achievement Award).

The event will take place in the Winebrenner Theological Seminary Auditorium on the campus of The University of Findlay. Doors will open at 10:15 a.m., and the induction/luncheon will begin at 11 a.m. The fee to attend the induction/luncheon is $25 for adults and $15 for children, while those age 5 and under are free. Doug Coate

Coate earned four letters for the Oilers baseball and a member of the 1979 NAIA national championship football squad. As a quarterback, Coate guided the Oilers to an 18-2 record as a starter and earned all-district accolades in 1981 and 1982.

Coate continued to contribute to both programs after his playing days, serving as an assistant football coach for 14 seasons and as the head coach for one. When the Oilers won the national championship in 1997, Coate had participated in all four championships, three while a coach.  He also served as the head baseball coach at UF from 1986-1997, amassing a career record of 198-182.

Currently serving as the recruiting coordinator and as an assistant football coach at St. Francis, Coate and his wife, Julie, reside in Ft. Wayne, Ind. They have adult children, Kylene and Seth.

Tim Hamen

Hamen earned four letters for the Oilers men’s basketball program and twice served as team captain. He currently ranks 18th all-time with 1,420 career points and is third all-time with 471 assists.

Hamen earned second team all-conference and second team all-region honors in 1995. In 1996, Hamen was voted an honorable mention All-American, first team all-conference and first team all-region. He also earned honorable mention all-conference honors and academic All-American accolades during the 1998-99 campaign.

A technology project manager for Fidelity Information Systems in Indianapolis, Ind., Hamen also serves as an independent consultant on technology initiatives in the financial services industry. He and his wife, Mishawna, live in Indianapolis.

Katie (Stedcke) Hunt

(Stedcke) Hunt experienced great success in the gym and on the track at Findlay. She participated in the NAIA basketball Final 4 in 1998 and 2000 and was a NAIA national champion in the outdoor 4x800-meter relay in 2000. She received the Mancuso Trophy in 2001, which is given to the most outstanding female student-athlete at UF.

She ranks 19th all-time at UF with 1,035 career points and holds the school record for most assists in a game with 16 against Gannon on Jan. 30, 1999. She also ranks second with 269 career steals and fourth with 363 career assists. She earned first team all-conference and all-defensive honors in 2000 and again in 2001. As a track star she also won a GLIAC title in the outdoor 4x400 and 4x800.

The third grade teacher lives in Perrysburg, Ohio with her husband, Kyle, and children, Kasey, Kamryn and Kali.

Damien Spates

Spates competed for the Oilers cross country and track teams and was tabbed All-American nine times during his career. He was also a part of the Oilers 1998 outdoor 4x800-meter relay team, which won a NAIA national title.

Spates earned GLIAC championships in the indoor 800-meter (1999) and outdoor 4x400-meter relay (1998, 1999). He was also an academic All-American for cross country in 1998 and for track in 1998 and 1999. He remains a school record holder in the indoor 4x800-meter relay (7:42.70) and outdoor 4x800-meter relay (7:34.05).

Spates, who received the Mancuso Trophy as the most outstanding male student-athlete at Findlay, is a certified internal auditor for PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. and resides in University Heights, Ohio with his wife, Lecia.

Nate Weihrauch

Weihrauch was twice named first team All-American for the Oilers football team as a defensive back. He helped the Oilers win the 1995 national title and was voted as the NAIA Defensive Back of the Year in 1996.

Weihrauch intercepted 15 passes during his career and still holds school records for the most touchdowns on interceptions in a game (2), season (3) and career (5). He was a two-time first team all-league pick and earned academic All-American honors in 1996.

For the past eight years, Weihrauch has served as the director of athletics at Findlay High School in Findlay, Ohio. He also has served as a teacher and assistant principal. He resides in Findlay with his wife, Sarah, and three children, Sam, Luke and Joselyn.

Michelle (Biclawski) Williams

(Biclawski) Williams was named All-American two times during her career for the Oilers soccer team. She earned the honors in 1995 and again in 1996. She was also tabbed the Great Lakes Region Player of the Year in 1996.

She holds UF records for most goals in a season (28), most points in a season (64), most hat tricks in a career (7) and is ranked second all-time with 69 career scores. She also helped the Oilers post a 70-15-5 record during her tenure with the program, which included three appearances in the NAIA national tournament.

Currently the director of the American Red Cross of Putnam County in Ohio, she received the Presidential Award for Excellence in 2014. Her husband, John, live in Ottawa, Ohio with their children, Jocelyn and Jacquelyn.

Terry Wymer

Wymer has been a NCAA Division I basketball official for over 20 years and played baseball and football for the Oilers during his collegiate years. He has worked well over 1,000 career games and served as an official during the 2013 Final 4.
