Findlay's 2nd straight G-MAC Presidents Cup

Findlay Repeats as G-MAC Presidents' Cup Champions

Findlay, Ohio – On Wednesday, May 6, the University of Findlay Oilers were announced as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Presidents' Cup winners for the 2019-20 season. This marks the second consecutive year that Findlay has taken home the conference's top honor. Despite spring sports not being countable towards the total points due to the coronavirus, the Oilers accumulated 95.5 points in the fall and winter, capturing the top spot in the conference.

The Great Midwest Presidents' Cup is awarded to the member institution that collects the highest tally of points based on regular-season winning percentage (standings) or individual meet results (sports with no conference regular-season schedule) through the completed winter championship season.

Findlay won three applicable conference titles on the year, beginning in the fall with a magical run by the women's soccer program who earned their first regular-season championship in school history, securing 11 points towards the Presidents' Cup.

Men's basketball also took the regular-season crown, for the third consecutive season, and were followed by the men's swimming and diving team which picked up their third straight title, as well.

"Winning the Presidents' Cup for a second consecutive year is truly a testament to the resolve and dedication of our coaches and student-athletes", said Director of Athletics, Brandi Laurita. "We do not take this honor lightly and beam with pride about the accomplishments of all of our teams. In a year in which our spring sports could not gather points, that only emphasized the importance that each of our coaches and student-athletes played because every single point mattered. This award represents a true team effort here at the University of Findlay and we are incredibly grateful to again be named Presidents' Cup Champions."

Along with team success, Findlay saw an influx of individual success at the G-MAC level, as well. Over the course of the year, Oilers' athletes earned 50 Athlete of the Week awards and 92 all-G-MAC awards. In the fall, women's soccer player Jayla Campbell earned G-MAC Freshman of the Year while football player Christopher Jefferson was named G-MAC Defensive Player of the Year.

In the winter, wrestler Branson Proudlock earned G-MAC Freshman of the Year, swimmer Hanna Cederholm won G-MAC Athlete of the Year, swimmer Tim Stollings won G-MAC Athlete and Freshman of the Year, Xavier Marable won Track Athlete of the Year, and Josh Verhoff won Track Freshman of the Year.

Oilers coaches also shined as a pair earned Coach of the Year honors from the conference. Those were former women's soccer coach Jimmy Walker and swimming and diving coach Andrew Makepeace.
