Wipper | Schmock Selected as Mancuso Winners

The University of Findlay announced that senior women's golfer Meredith Wipper and senior men's basketball player Tommy Schmock were named the Oilers annual Mancuso Award winners on April 8. The award is named after and sponsored by Iggy Mancuso, a 1945 graduate and highly successful wrestling coach at Findlay from 1948-58.

The award is intended to bring distinction and honor to the top male and female athlete at Findlay each year. The criteria for being selected includes; academic achievement, athletic achievement, contributions to the university, community and sport, sportsmanship, special distinction related to athletic success and athletes who best exemplify integrity, loyalty and humility in academics and athletics.

"These two student-athletes truly exemplify what it means to be an Oiler, said Director of Athletics, Brandi Laurita." "Meredith and Tommy have had great success athletically and academically and are truly outstanding individuals who do a tremendous job of representing our university."

Wipper is currently enrolled in the Master's of Business program where she carries a 3.93 grade point average.

During the fall, Wipper recorded two, top-five finishes for Findlay and is the leader of a program that is ranked fourth among all NCAA Division II schools. During her career, Wipper has been named all-East Region three times and is also a three-time all-conference player. She was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Freshman of the Year in 2016-17 and won a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship in 2018-19. During a shortened 2019-20 season, Wipper was tabbed an NCAA Division II All-American.

Wipper has also been active in the community and has volunteered with Make-A-Wish, Sip and Strut, First Tee, Cancer Patient Services Chili Cook-Off, and the Oilers All Sports Day.

Schmock is currently carrying a 3.79 grade point average as he pursues his degree in Middle Childhood Education.

Schmock averaged 13.9 points, 5.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game for the Oilers during the 2020-21 campaign. He was named first team all-Atlantic Region, first team all-Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), and was selected as a G-MAC all-defensive team pick. He was also named first team all-conference in 2019-20 and selected to all the all-defensive team that year as well.

Schmock is the Oilers all-time leader in career assists with 625 and ranks fifth all-time at Findlay with 237 steals. He also ranks 44th all-time at Findlay with 1,044 points.

Schmock is also active in the community and has volunteered with the Susan Komen Race for the Cure, Walk to End Alzheimers, Habitat for Humanity, and Ohio Guidestone.
