Baseball Season Ends in Columbus

Columbus, OH – The University of Findlay baseball team finished their season on Sunday, May 3 with a couple of losses at Ohio Dominican. With the dropped doubleheader, the Oilers end with a 12-36 record with a 7-25 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

Game 1: ODU 11 UF 0

Findlay struggled to get the bats going in the first contest as they were held to just five hits in the seven inning contest and dropped the game by an 11-0 final.

Mason Mayberry (2-5) took the loss on the hill as he pitched one inning and allowed six runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out one.

Game 2: ODU 5 UF 2

The Oilers jumped out to a lead in the first inning but failed to score the remainder of the game and fell 5-2.

Josh Schwerer stepped up to the plate and on the first pitch of the game, blasted a home run to left field. That home run was the first of the season for Findlay. With two outs, Chase Goulette doubled and following a walk, Logan Harrah also doubled, scoring Goulette and putting the Oilers up 2-0 after the first inning.

The visiting team then was held scoreless as ODU tied the game at 2-2 in the second inning, scored a single run in the fourth, and scored two runs in the eighth.

Colin Gossard (1-5) picked up a quality start as he went seven innings and allowed just three runs on five hits. He struck out a pair and walked three in the loss.

Schwerer and Harrah each had two hits and an RBI for the Oilers.

Findlay ended the game with two runs on seven hits, made one error and left eight runners on base.

The losses end the year for the UF baseball team which, with the a very good recruiting class, is looking forward to a productive 2016 season.
