Offense Explodes in Win at Cedarville

Cedarville, OH – The University of Findlay baseball team traveled take on the Cedarville Yellow Jackets on Wednesday, March 16 and return home with the victory. With the 12-9 win, the Oilers improve their record to 6-5 on the season, the best start to a season under third year coach, Steve Parrill. The offensive explosion was against the Yellow Jackets marks the first time the Oilers have scored double-digit runs this season.

Runs, Runs, Runs

Between the two teams, runs were scored in six of the nine innings played and five times, a team was able to plate more than one run in an inning. The 21 combined runs are the most in a game in which the Oilers have played since March 4 of last season, a 14-7 loss to Wheeling Jesuit in Winter Haven, Florida.

Rally Time

The contest was back and forth the whole game. Entering the seventh, Findlay was trailing 8-7, but the Orange and Black exploded for five runs in the seventh.

Sophomore Troy Merriman and junior Logan Harrah each walked to begin the inning and advanced on a fielder's choice. Freshman Derrick Herd singled to score Merriman. Junior Peter Yorgen followed with a single of his own which, thanks to a double-steal, gave the Oilers two more runs. After a single from senior Jordan Garcia and a run-scoring fielder's choice, sophomore Cameron Johnson singled and scored junior Austin Adams for the final run of the inning. Once all was said-and-done, five runs had scored on four hits and the Oilers had a 12-8 lead.

Seven players for Findlay had at least two hits. It's the first time since March 11, 2014 in a game vs. Urbana that seven players have had two hits each. In Wednesday's win, those players with two hits are:
