Oilers Drop Non-Conference Game at Urbana

Urbana, Ohio – The University of Findlay baseball team dropped a single, non-conference affair against the Urbana Blue Knights on Wednesday, April 17 in Urbana, Ohio by a score of 5-2. With the loss, Findlay falls to 11-20 this season while Urbana improves to 8-26 on the year.

The Blue Knights took the lead in the second inning with a single run and added to their lead with a solo-home run in the fourth.

With their backs against the wall, the Oilers' eighth inning began with back-to-back singles by senior Derrick Herd and junior Austin Rawlins. A sac bunt moved those runners up to second and third with one out and a wild pitch allowed Herd to score. Junior Jordan Williams then lifted a fly ball to left field, deep enough to score Rawlins and tie the game at 2-2.

However, in the bottom of the eighth, Urbana used two hits and three walks to plate three runs, taking a 5-2 lead.

Findlay was set down in order in the ninth.

The Oilers finished with two runs on eight hits and made one error while Urbana scored five runs on eight hits and made one error.

Herd, Rawlins, and senior Trevor Anderson all had two hits for the Oilers, who did not record an extra base hit in the game.

On the mound was a host of Findlay pitchers as freshman Ryan Moher, freshman Anthony Kyle, senior Mark Delas, sophomore Jordan Bekier, freshman Ben Calisto, and freshman Trey Bame all saw action. Calisto took the loss as he was responsible for the go-ahead run that scored in the eighth.

Findlay is back in action on Friday and Saturday, April 19-20 when they host Lake Erie for a four-game series. Both double headers are scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
