Oilers Take Two from Lake Erie | Sit at 7-3 in G-MAC Play

Cincinnati, OH- The University of Findlay baseball team traveled to Cincinatti to take on the Lake Erie Storm in a 4 game conference series. The Oilers would come into the weekend with a 9-15 record and currently sitting in 3rd place in the G-MAC (Great Midwest Athletic Conference) with a 5-3 conference record. 

Findlay came out of the gate swinging scoring 3 runs in the top of the first inning. Junior Aidan Lao would start things off scoring on a pass ball. Freshmen Jabin Bates would score the second run on and RBI single from senior Ryan O'Malley. O'Malley would then score the third run on an RBI groundout by junior Cam Farrar. 

The Oilers would pile on another 3-run inning in the top of the second. Senior Alex Foulks would drive in sophomore Derek Fay with a single. Foulks would later come around to score on an RBI double from Lao, who would later score on an RBI single from Bates.  

The third inning was no different as Findlay stretched their lead to 10 with 4 more runs. Sophomore Andrew Micale would score first on a passed ball followed by a 2 RBI single by Lao to bring home Foulks and Fay. Lao would then score on a single up the middle by Bates to finish off the scoring.  

In the 4th inning junior Nates Brooks would score Farrar with an RBI groundout to second base. Findlay would hold a commanding 11-0 lead after 4 innings of play. 

Findlay would scratch across another run in the top of the 8th with an RBI double from Farrar that scored senior Christian Orr to bring the score to 12-0. 

The Storm put up 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning on a two out two run double to bring the score to within 10 runs. 

In the top of the 9th Findlay scored the final run of the game off an RBI double by Lao, who finished the game with 4 RBIs, that scored freshman Tanner Herrera to give Findlay the 13-2 win. 

Senior Anthony Kyle started on the hill for the Oilers. Kyle would pick up the win for the Oilers throwing 7 innings allowing no earned runs, only 3 hits, and striking out 9 of his 24 batters faced. Freshmen Jacob Flaherty would pitch in relief throwing 1 inning allowing 2 runs and striking out two batters. Junior Sebastian Jones would throw the final inning for Findlay allowing only one hit and striking out one Lake Erie hitter.  

Findlay kept rolling in game two, scoring their first run in the top of the 2nd inning when Orr reached on a fielder's choice allowing Micale to score. 

In the top of the 3rd inning Brooks would reach first on an error allowing O'Malley to score. Brooks would later come around to score on a fielder's choice, hit by Fay, to give Findlay a 3-0 lead. 

The Oilers went on a run in the top of the 4th inning. Bates started it off with a 2 RBI double that scored both Lao and Foulks. Farrar followed with a double of his own that brought Bates around to score. Not to be outdone, Brooks would hit the third RBI double of the inning scoring both O'Malley and Farrar. To cap the inning off, both Brooks and Micale would score on an RBI fielder's choice by Foulks. 

Lake Erie would score their first run of the game in the fifth inning with an RBI single. They would add another run in the 6th inning, and one more in the 7th inning to make the score 10-3 in favor of the Oilers. 

Senior Bailey McCord started on the mound for Findlay. McCord would complete 5.2 innings allowing only one earned run on 4 hits and striking out 8 of the 24 batters he faced while picking up the win. Senion Trey Bame came into the game to pitch following McCord. Bame would get the last out of the 6th inning with a fly out. Junior Grant Meyer would throw the last inning for Findlay allowing one earned run and striking out three batters. 

With the two wins, Findlay jumps to 11-15 on the season and 7-3 in the G-MAC (Great Midwest Athletic Conference). Due to weather the final two games of the series have been postponed being played at a later date.
