Farrar Drives in Seven | Leads Oilers in Sweep of SVSU

Winter Park, Fla. - The University of Findlay baseball team wrapped up their trip south to Florida on Saturday, March 4 with a doubleheader sweep of the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals. The Oilers won the opener 4-1 before an offensive explosion that led to a 14-6 victory in the nightcap. With the two wins, Findlay is now 6-6 on the year while the Cardinals fall to 4-6.

SVSU took an early lead in the opener with a solo home run in the first inning, but Findlay, which was no-hit through three innings of play, got on the board in the fourth inning.

Aidan Lao (Sr.) singled to lead off the fourth and Christian Orr (Sr.) walked. Cam Farrar (Sr.) then picked up his first extra base hit of the day, a two-RBI double, putting the Oilers on top 2-1.

Another run came in the seventh when Nate Brooks (Sr.), who led off with a walk, scored on a fielders' choice off the bat of Lao. An error allowed another run to score, putting the Oilers up 4-1.

Starter Blaine Wynk (Fr.) got the first two outs of the seventh before Gavin Bailey (Sr.) came in to secure his first save of the year, recording the final out of the game via a pop up.

Wynk earned the win on the hill, cashing in another solid outing. He went 6.2 innings and gave up just one run on five hits. He walked one and struck out six to earn his second victory of the year.

Game 2 was a different story as the Oilers went on to tie their season-high with 14 runs scored. Five of those runs came in the first game. Aidan Lao began the game with a triple and scored on a single by Orr. After a walk to Farrar, Kyron Rogers (Sr.) doubled to send two more runs home. A triple by Nate Brooks (Sr.) and ground out by Trey Bame (Sr.) brough two more runs in, putting the Oilers ahead 5-0.

Three runs in the first and two more in the second by the Cardinals pulled the game even at 5-5.

Findlay regained the lead in the fourth on an RBI double by Farrar and would not look back. The Orange and Black went on to score seven runs over the final five innings to secure the trip-ending victory.

On the day, Farrar led the offense, picking up three hits including two doubles and a home run. He scored two runs and drove in seven runs, five of which came in the second game.

Aidan Lao did his job out of the leadoff spot, picking up four hits including a double and a triple. He also walked twice, leading to five runs scored.

Christian Orr had three hits in the double header, as well, leading to four runs scored.

Findlay will be back on the diamond on Saturday, March 11 with two games against Mercyhurst. Those games will be held at Defiance High School in Defiance, Ohio.
