Findlay Splits with G-MAC South Division Leader

Nashville, Tenn. - The University of Findlay baseball team split a doubleheader with the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans on Saturday, April 22 in Nashville, Tennessee. The Oilers won the opener by a score of 8-3 but fell in the nightcap in shutout fashion, 12-0. With the split, Findlay is now 20-19 on the year with an 11-11 record in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while the Trojans move to 22-16 overall and 15-7 in the G-MAC, remaining atop the South Division.

For Findlay, they reached the 20-win plateau for the first time since 2017-18. It's just the third 20-win season since 2008-09, the season that followed Findlay's all-time winningest season in 2007-08, a 28-win campaign.

With one out in the top of the first, senior Cole Kwiatkowski doubled to left center and was followed by a home run to right center off the bat of senior Cam Farrar. The blast was the 12th of the season for Farrar, breaking his own single season record at UF for home runs in a season.

Two innings later, senior Nate Brooks launched his second home run of the season, a three-run bomb to right center that put the Oilers ahead 5-0.

A solo blast in the fifth by Kwiatkowski made it 6-0 and an inning later, Findlay extended the lead to 7-0 on an infield single by junior Andrew Micale.

Trevecca Nazarene scored two runs in the sixth on a home run, but it was not enough as Findlay would hold on for an 8-3 victory.

Senior Anthony Kyle got the win on the hill for Findlay, tossing seven innings and allowing just two runs on two hits. He walked three and struck out four of the 27 batters he faced.

Game 2 belonged to TNU as the Oilers managed just one hit in the contest. That hit was a fourth inning leadoff single by Kwiatkowski.

The Trojans scored four runs in the fourth and put the game away with seven runs in the fifth.

Freshman Braeden Goulet suffered the loss in the game, falling to 1-4 on the year. He threw 3.1 innings and gave up four runs on three hits. He walked four and struck out three.

Offensively, Kwiatkowski led the way as he went 4-for-7 on the day with a double and a home run. He had a team-high four runs scored and had both of Findlay's stolen bases on the day.

Micale had a pair of hits, both singles, and Brooks had two hits including a home run and four RBI.

The series will conclude tomorrow, April 23 with another doubleheader against the Trojans.
