Sumlin Returns To Anchor Defensive Line

Junior defensive lineman Richard Sumlin, a two-time honorable mention all-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) pick, has all the tools you look for in a defensive tackle and appears set on wreaking havoc in the offensive backfield during the 2011 campaign for Findlay's new look defense.

Sumlin has started all 21 games in which he has appeared in during his career and as a sophomore, racked up 61 tackles and 9.5 tackles for a loss.

The Oilers will also return senior Andrew Leddy, who missed last season with an injury, sophomores Donald Day, John Hammersmith and ShaJuan Grace and red-shirt freshman Cameron Koepp.

During his career, Leddy has appeared in 31 games and made ten starts while Day saw action in three contests last year. Hammersmith meanwhile registered 27 tackles and two sacks in seven games last year.

The rest of the Oilers defensive linemen are plenty talented, but inexperienced. Sophomore Alex Vance, red-shirt freshman Josh Lee and freshmen D.J. Williams Jr., Miles Davis, Kevin Brewton and Caden Chapman will battle for playing time in 2011.

"We have a lot of inexperience on the defensive line," said co-defensive coordinator Dan Hott. "We are going to count on some younger players, but a bunch of guys will play."
