Oilers Defeat Bearcats 38-21

The University of Findlay football team earned their second straight win to improve to 3-2 on the year with a 38-21 win over McKendree on Saturday, Oct. 5 in Lebanon, Ill.

The Oilers offense was in high gear as they rolled up 621 yards of total offense in the victory.  They also tied a school record with 33 first downs.

Findlay's defense also had their best outing of the season, holding the Bearcats to only 293 yards.

Junior quarterback Verlon Reed completed 24-of-36 passing attempts for 335 yards and a touchdown while also rushing four times for 52 yards.

Red-shirt sophomore running back Daiquone Ford gashed the Bearcat defense for a career-high 229 rushing yards on 30 attempts.  The Myrtle Beach, S.C. native also scored three rushing touchdowns and added two receptions for 22 yards in the game.

Junior wide receiver Lloyd Henry caught eight passes for 109 yards and a score while senior tight end Jaryd Brown recorded five catches for 65 yards.

Senior wide receiver Seth White made five receptions for 53 yards and moved into second place all-time with 137 career receptions.  His total is only two shy of breaking the school record for receptions in a career as Jeff Rowe (2000-03) and Rick Hatfield (1976-79) share the top spot with 138 catches.

Freshman running back Anthony Linnear rushed six times for 20 yards and a touchdown while red-shirt freshman wide receiver Dylan Blunk made three receptions for 52 yards in the win.

Freshman defensive back Tory Clark had a big day in the return game as well for the Oilers as he racked up 128 yards on three attempts, one of which went for 71 yards.

Senior linebacker Trevor Smith paced the defense with nine tackles while red-shirt freshman linebacker Brad Fenton made seven stops.

Junior defensive lineman Kevin Brewton had two sacks while sophomore defensive lineman Luke Fleming and red-shirt freshman defensive lineman Mitchell Campbell had one sack apiece.

The Oilers will continue their road swing next week when they travel to Tiffin, Ohio for a 1:30 p.m. contest against Tiffin University.
