Reed Leads Oilers to 46-38 Win Over Chargers

Behind a huge game from senior quarterback Verlon Reed, the Oilers football team claimed a 46-38 win over the Chargers of Hillsdale on Sep. 6 in Donnell Stadium.

Reed filled up the stat sheet in the victory on opening night and accounted for all six of the Oilers touchdowns in the game.  He scored four times on the ground and added two throwing strikes as well. The Columbus, Ohio native rushed the ball 18 times for 176 yards and completed 17-of-28 passing attempts for 293 yards.

Senior wide receiver Lloyd Henry had a monster game for Findlay with nine catches for 129 yards while red-shirt freshman quarterback/receiver Darnell Fields had three catches for 88 yards and a score.

Sophomore wide receiver Luke Hampton added two catches for 45 yards and a touchdown while junior receiver Tim Szabo recorded three catches for 31 yards in the win.

Sophomore running back Anthony Linnear churned out 74 yards on 18 carries while junior running back Daiquone Ford rushed the ball 15 times for 40 yards.

As a team, the Oilers converted 57 percent (8-of-14) of their third down tries and racked up 595 yards of total offense in the victory. 

Senior safety Harold Jones-Quartey and sophomore safety Tory Clark led the defense with 11 tackles apiece while senior cornerback Nathan Morris made ten stops.

Senior defensive end Kevin Brewton recorded four tackles and a sack while sophomore linebacker Myles Alexander had two tackles for a loss in the game.

Bennett Lewis led the Chargers offense with 143 rushing yards and three touchdowns while Butch Herzog paced the defense with 12 tackles.
