5 Oilers Earn All-Region Honors from D2CCA

Seniors Andrew Alten and Aaron Ivory were each tabbed first team all-Super Region 1 by the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) on Nov. 30.

Alten, who was voted the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Offensive Lineman of the Year, served as the anchor for the Oilers offensive line until an injury cut his season short. The first team all-conference pick helped lead the Oilers to a school record 578 points scored and 6,702 total yards gained during the 2017 campaign.

Ivory meanwhile was tabbed the Great Midwest Defensive Back of the Year in 2017. A first team all-conference selection, Ivory finished his senior year with 36 tackles and five interceptions. He returned three interceptions for scores, tying the school record for most touchdowns on picks in a single season.

In addition, senior running back Daouda Sylla, senior defensive end Johnny Hopkins and sophomore tight end Luke Stuffel earned second team all-region honors.

Sylla was a first team all-conference pick for the Oilers after rushing for 1,554 yards, the fifth-best single-season total in school history. He also scored 19 touchdowns, the fifth-best single-season mark in program history.

Hopkins was named the Great Midwest Defensive Lineman of the Year for the Oilers in 2017. A first team all-league pick, Hopkins recorded 50 tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss and 5.5 sacks during his final season at Findlay.

Stuffel was a first team all-league selection and finished the 2017 campaign with 18 catches for 202 yards and one score.
