Oilers Come From Behind to Beat Charleston

The University of Findlay football team improved to 4-3 on the season with a 35-24 win at Charleston on Oct. 13.

The Oilers found themselves down 24-21 with 12:58 remaining in the game, but took care of things down the stretch to pull out the victory. The rally began when senior quarterback Adam Bertke hit junior tight end Luke Stuffel for a 21-yard touchdown to give Findlay a 28-24 advantage with 9:42 to play. JFreshman Maliq Carr then blocked a punt attempt, his fourth blocked kick of the season which currently is tied for the NCAA Division II lead, and junior running back Richard Wilson capitalized, scoring on a 1-yard run two plays later to give Findlay a 35-24 victory.

Wilson gained 76 yards on 20 carries while Bertke completed 12-of-26 passing attempts for 177 yards and three touchdowns. Stuffel caught two of those touchdowns and finished the game with three receptions for 51 yards.

Junior wide receiver Andrew Ogletree hauled in four catches for 79 yards and a score while senior defensive back Chiebuka Chukwuneke led the defense with ten tackles.

Sophomore defensive lineman Kyle Gibson recorded nine tackles and a 1.5 sacks while senior defensive lineman Cyle Skidmore had two sacks in the victory.

The Oilers will be back out on the road again next week when they travel to Alderson Broaddus for a 12pm game.
