Oilers Beat Walsh 24-16

The University of Findlay football team overcame five turnovers to defeat Walsh University by a score of 24-16 on Oct. 27 in a rain-filled evening at Donnell Stadium. The victory pushes the Oilers record to 6-3 on the season with a 4-2 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

The Oilers piled up 501 yards of total offense in the game and averaged 6.1 yards per play. Most of their damage was done on the ground as they rushed the ball 55 times for 308 yards. Sophomore Brian Benson was the beneficiary of the Oilers plan to grind it out on the ground as he set career-high's with 40 carries for 233 yards and three touchdowns. Benson scored on a 2-yard run in the first, a 29-yard scamper later in the first quarter and a 24-yard run in the third to put Findlay ahead for good in the game.

Senior Chauncey Bridges added seven carries for 56 yards while senior Adam Bertke completed 17-of-27 passing attempts for 193 yards. Junior Andrew Ogletree caught five balls for 81 yards while senior Jason Moore snatched four balls for 38 yards in the win.

Defensively, senior Chiebuka Chukwuneke had ten tackles and broke up two passes while sophomore Jack Trombetti had eight stops, which included three tackles for a loss.

Freshman Maliq Carr recorded two sacks while freshman Christian Weems and senior Cyle Skidmore had one sack apiece.

The Oilers also welcomed back offensive lineman, Corey Crawford, who has been battling cancer for the past year. Crawford served as a captain for the game and teamed with the Oilers athletic department to raise $500 for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Findlay will be back at home next week to host Malone University for senior day. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1pm.
